I have this very vivid memory of a Daft Punk song. My friend Johnny Brace had this car stereo subwoofer in his room, with the kind of bass frequencies that rock your chest plate, and he had the CD single of Daft Punk’s “Around The World”. You might be too young to know what a CD single is, so ill bring you up to speed: when a record company picked a track from an artist’s LP to send to radio, they'd release a disc with that track, and a B-side or 3. There aren't sides to a CD, but there were once two sides to a vinyl 45 single, thus the term “B-Side”. I don’t remember what the B-side was on “Around the World”.
Coming from very the very non danceable angsty grunge and industrial music, I had never ever heard anything like that Daft Punk track in my life. I made Johnny play the the track on loop for at least two hours. The low end of it through the 15 inch speaker was vibrating my rib cage, and I was positively smitten with how that felt.
A few years ago i wanted to find music like Daft Punk, so i went digging around spotify, and that’s how i got into some of my favorite street strutting jams, like Justice, Breakbot and Parcels.
aroundtheworld around the world aroundtheworld!
