Bar Gig

I am in a very good mood today, just fucking jovial. I wonder why? who cares. I thought I'd come to this keyboard again today, and finally get something out that has been on my mind.

I was thinking about something it might take a while to get at it, so let’s see.

i like Pearl Jam, I'm not like a huge fan or obsessed like I am with Dinosaur Jr, or the grateful dead. i just think Pearl Jam is a great band, I would never change the radio if one of their songs came on. I always liked pearl jam. anyway, on their 20th anniversary, a documentary was released by them that was directed by none other than Cameron Crowe, who actually wrote one of my favorite movies Fast Times At Ridgemont High, and is probably most famous for Almost Famous, very brilliant filmmaker. The film gave me a whole new appreciation for the band beyond where i was with it before watching. I don’t know that there is anything that i like more than movies about rock, and making rock.

in the movie (PJ20) they are talking about their first singer, who they had before Eddie Vedder, who died of what i think was a heroin overdose (it was Seattle in the early 90s). they said that he played every little club with the intensity that one would expect on stage at Madison square garden, like, he would play to 30 people like he was playing to 15 thousand. they went on to remark how much he would have loved playing places the band ended up selling out, one of which is Madison Square Garden.

I always compare everything to something that has to do with rock n roll. I write this blog like that guy used to play little clubs in Seattle. for some reason I can relate to that kind of energy, because I get it when I'm typing. i know how many people read this and it’s enough to fill a medium sized bar, which if i were in a small band, I would consider a successful gig.

and so, the blogging is a successful bar gig of a thing, that i play like a stadium. I prefer bar gigs to arena shows anyway. i was just talking to an old friend from new jersey about it, i told her to find out when one of the little grateful dead cover bands from down there (there are at least 3) are playing in the coming months, cause I'll be on a train from Penn station to Asbury Park. i miss live music so much, it’s been so long. i miss it so much i had to start singing in public.

ok, I went out on a limb with this one, might not make sense, might make perfect sense. i don’t know
