“Looks like the old man’s getting on”
So, I really prefer the earlier 72–74 slower versions of brown eyed women, like the version on Europe 72. The tempo ended up all sped up and less patient, Almost like they were racing through it (see:5/8/77). There are a lot fewer notes played by Garcia in the earlier versions, and the notes that are played hit a little harder.
I was bumping around the archive and drinking a coffee when I came upon a show I had never heard before. that’s the beauty of this band: theres always more to discover, perfect for obsessive digging.
Man, let me just tell you that the solo in this brown eyed woman made the hair on the back of my neck stand up, Keith and jerry are so locked in. I have listened to it 3 times in a row (so far).
this is the best music I’ve ever heard.
note (one day later): this whole fuckin show smokes, top to bottom front to back. its saving my life!
note2: goddamn, i dont think i’ve ever heard the band sound this good and i have been looking for 20 years.
