Candlebox and Fastball in Providence (1997)

One memorable show I saw should inform you what an old fart I am. I grew up on WBCN Boston rock radio, and being close to providence there was also another station playing "alternative" rock. If my memory serves me well (it generally does) it was 95.9 WBRU, and they were throwing free concerts in a Providence park.

I knew this girl Ashley who liked all the music I liked, so she invited me to Providence to see a show (her dad drove and chaperoned). Get this: it was: Fastball opening for Candlebox. Now, fastball was a rather forgettable one hit wonder (The Way), but candlebox was one of my favorite bands, as I came up with their self titled record. It was around '97, so they were a few years removed from their popularity, but they played all the stuff I I knew. Candlebox burned the place down,

dude, straight ripper of a set. High energy rawk!

I was in the front row and the singer said something to the effect of "rock on little guy", I felt that hard. It was one of my earliest live music experiences and I loved the hell out of it. I just remembered it when I heard a candlebox song on Spotify radio.

Big thank you to Ashley and her dad for putting me in that park for that show.

This playlist is emulating the tapes I made of the music on the radio as a kid.
