Before drugs and alcohol, I think I played video games alcoholically. I clearly remember the 5 hours it took to download Doom on all at 14.4 kbps.
I got so into Doom in 1995, I had seen it at other kids houses running on DOS, but once my dad got us a Mac in 1995 I could play it at home all I wanted to. That mac was probably 2,000$ and it was capable of 0.001% of what this phone in my pocket can do. Moore's law or something like that states that microprocessors will double in speed every year. I'm paraphrasing.
Anyway, when I was 9 years old and playing Doom, I wouldn't even take a break to go pee. I would literally piss my pants in order to keep playing Doom.
Years later I dumped at least 100 hours into final fantasy 7 for ps1. One day my brother accidently wiped my memory card file, and I got into a fist fight with him over it, I was apoplectic… physical violence, wow.
Once this kid HC informed me that there was weed and girls outside of the final fantasy, I started doing actual alcohol alcoholically, video games took second fiddle to all of the intoxicants I had access to. When I was 14 I realized I could get stoned AND play video games…woah.
