Educational Alliance NYC
From what I’ve gathered so far, I’m in some kind of artist commune where you just have to learn how to stay sober. People perform all kinds of things in morning meeting (poetry and music). There are piano lessons, guitar lessons and jam sessions in a room full of instruments. My roommate is a very Bruce springsteen “Nebraska”-ish singer-songwriter. Art therapy is a big part of everything here, and people are even working on a film. I fancy myself a creative person, so I intend to create some shit.
I was playing my world-renowned dance playlist in the lounge this morning and people were getting down reasonably hard for 7 AM. It’s my dream to DJ dance parties, so that was excellent.
I can’t believe I could just fuck up hard all summer and land in a spot like this by sheer luck. That’s kind of the prevalent theme of all my stories, if I stop and think of it, dumb luck.
There are a few challenges, I have to start in a 4 man’s room with a heavy snore guy. I take Seroquel and listen to either chillhop or this alan watts sleep podcast, and I sleep reasonably well. My smoking habit is limited to the 5 loosies I have to buy from the bodega next door (3.90$ a day, when I do the math), but it’s better than smoking a 13$ pack a day. There’s a whole curriculum of things I’ve gotta do, and I can be very lazy.
The good makes the bad look minor, and I’m very pleased with how things worked out.
