My music teacher, Mariano, has become a very good mentor for me and my musical endeavors, as well as a source of wisdom on life in general. He always leaves me with a challenge for the next time we meet, and I truly think he believes in me as an artist, whatever kind of artist I might be.
Last week, after our usual practice of covering songs that I’ve picked out, he had an idea. He said that all of these Rolling Stones songs are well and good, and they sound nice, but he suggested that I should be writing my own songs with his help on the piano. He told me to compile all of my poems and lyrics, and print them out to bring next week. I have done that; it’s about 12 pages, 11-point font on Google Docs.
I have always wanted an actual musician to help me write songs because all my poems are written that way. I try to utilize my limited musical knowledge and whatever apps and software I can figure out, with varying degrees of success.
I am a little nervous about this because I have never done it, but I am also excited. Let’s see how it goes.
