I do get all down on myself sometimes and feel like I can’t do anything when I’m hunting for jobs, especially when I have my patented out-of-body anxiety events in busy New York transit hubs on my way to interviews and onboarding.
That isn’t true, though. I can do something: I can write. I write nearly every day, and there are over 400 posts on this blog now. I’m not saying they’re all home runs, but it doesn’t stop me from swinging almost every day.
I love writing because it feels very natural to me. I’m very comfortable inside of it, and I fancy myself somewhat proficient as a writer. That’s why I still have this blog, almost two years after I decided to start it. Most things I get really hyper fixated on keep my attention for a few weeks at best, and then I move on to something else… not this. I’m still doing this.
So, I’m trying to explore how to shake some money out of it. You’re supposed to find something that never feels like work and do that. I started Googling “how to make money writing,” and let me just tell you, it’s a minefield of scams and spam. You get through signing up for things, and before you know it, they’re asking you to pay them. I’m the one that’s supposed to get paid here, that’s how jobs work: i work, and you pay me. You should see all of the spam rubbish in my email inbox from just one day of trying to find a way to make money as a writer. I’m lucky i grew up on the internet and can tell what a spam fugazi is.
I started a Fiverr account, which is a freelance writing marketplace thing, but I’m kind of clueless about how to utilize it. Also, I don’t know how to go from writing stories about pissing my pants on drugs in the ghetto to whatever kind of civilian-type things one pays writers for. I also don’t know if my 400 stories about being mentally ill and pissing my pants on drugs in the ghetto would help or hurt my chances at writing some kind of paid civilian-type thing.
I’m still going to look for a real job, but I’m also trying to figure out how to make this profitable

side note on the coffee thing: of course i don’t like aggressively fundraising on all of my blog posts, of course it feels kind of like panhandling, and I'm sure there are some people that don’t like it. I just have to utilize what I have to try to get by the best I can. if I get a job, I probably won’t do it anymore, but real talk…every little bit helps.
