If you’ve been reading, you may know that my singing is being included in a documentary about the healing powers of music that is being directed by my music teacher and filmmaker Mariano Wainsztein. yesterday was our second day filming. We will film for 2 hours every Thursday and Friday. I capture with my laptop camera, while he has a nice movie camera set up. I also make little behind the scenes Instagram Reels, documenting the process. later on i edit the webcam footage and put it up on youtube.

As usual i pick a few songs that i think i can sing, and bring them to him to play piano on. I had a few this week, and one that i definitely thought i couldnt do. We ran through “All Along the Watchtower”, and a feeble attempts at 2 Paul McCartney songs (“Let it Be, “Hey Jude”). I just can’t sing like Paul, he has a different range and is a better singer.

With “Watchtower” we started talking about Bob Dylan, and i brought up “Like a Rolling Stone”. I mentioned that i was thinking about it, but it just had too many words for me, and a weird rhyme scheme to get through, so i didnt think i could do it. He started playing it, and i started singing with the lyrics in front of me.

That song is very special to me, and i think it’s very special to everyone, being widely known as the best rock and roll song ever written (ask Rolling Stone Magazine). I used to sing the song, (about ending up homeless) to myself when I was living on the street with no direction home.

I did struggle with the later verses, which are wordy and easy to fumble, but we got through a few takes, and I ended up with one I can live with. I guess it isn’t about pin point accuracy, but the feeling coming through the delivery of the song, which is something I should understand as a Deadhead.

here is the laptop video:

i also wanted to add the playlists of (i think) all of the songs we’ve done over the past few months:

I wonder what other songs I should do, I have a list going on Spotify:
