On laughter

I may be a little cute, but I’ve never been able to get by on being “hot" or “attractive". What worked out for me was making people laugh. I’m pretty sure that humor pulled in all the girlfriends I’ve ever had. You’d have to ask them I suppose.

I remember the feeling that I got in elementary school when my impressions would have all the other kids on the bus chuckling. Dopamine release and peer acceptance. It felt good.

I became kind of a class clown because of the way the attention made me feel. It also landed me in detention and suspended from school more times than I could count.

During my years in AA I enjoyed telling my story on a fairly regular basis, not just for the whole “experience, strength and hope" trip, but also to get a room of people to laugh at my various follies. survival of addiction requires a great deal of levity.

The little speaking engagements would make me feel good for the rest of the week. I’m unabashedly unafraid of public speaking… I actually love it.

My hope is that my cynical dry humor translates into my writing, even when I’m getting at really dark and sad shit

Addiction and mental Illness are serious subjects bur I think they also are a laughing matter. I think everything can be a laughing matter. I couldn’t deactivate the sarcasm even if I wanted to. Humor is the sugar that helps the medicine of my stark reality go down.

I love to watch things about the craft of stand up comedy (“Crashing", “comedians in cars getting coffee"). Though I don’t know if I’d have the balls or talent to do that myself.

Comedians are some of the smartest people I can think of. Just look at George Carlin, Bill Hicks, or Dave chappelle, true masters of the craft. It’s ingenious when you’re made to think while being made to laugh.

I think that funny women are the most attractive. I have lifelong crushes on Sarah Silverman, Janeane Garofolo, and Margaret Cho. The sharp wit and intellect required to do comedy are incredibly attractive attributes.

Laughing is so fucking good for you, it’s good for your soul. Everyone in my family is funny (toilet humor funny). All of my friends are funny (even if it’s unintentional)

I love weird people because I’m weird. I love people who make light of the darker things, even if it is a defense mechanism.

I was reading this book “you are a badass" by some life coach from somewhere. It said you should stop with the self deprecating humor…

No

I closed the book and put it back on the shelf. How douchy is the whole life coach concept anyway? Get the fuck outta here! I could be wrong.

We have got to be able to laugh at ourselves! I don’t want to even deal with people who cant do that.

When I remember the best times in my life I remember laughing. I aspire to laugh as much as I can… if I were a life coach I’d tell you that you should too.

Don’t laugh at my digital panhandling
