Rhythm
Thinking, all the time. That’s what i do, and honestly i’m better for it, i think… most of the time. until the night time, then i’m not doing the thinking, it’s doing me. i recently rediscovered the fact that writing stops me from thinking so, i’ll take my little tap tap at this keyboard.
it’s 9:49p and i’ve just come back from a 12 step meeting in brooklyn. monday is road trip day for my sponsor and i, so we go somewhere outside of the south richmond hill, south ozone park section of queens. it’s great. he has a cool BMW, and riding in cars really hasn’t much been part of my reality in NYC since i got here 5 years ago, unless i was taking ubers to do something stupid. when i’m attending the meetings around my little community, honestly, i prefer to walk because i can be in my headphones, get excersise and take random pictures of things that i find cool, beautiful or interesting.
i like to stop and talk to people, also. they tend to like to talk to me, and if they don’t want to…that’s ok. i feel like the mayor of little guyana these days, man…it’s fucking beautiful. i’m a part of this neighborhood.
i find myself doing things i liked doing when i was young. fighting games, nerding out on music, sticking graffiti labels on things. i realize that i’m in the home of most of the culture i grew up on, and tried to emulate my whole life.
i’m able to be grateful for this, this city, this borough, this neighborhood at least once a day, never below once a day but often well above once a day.
here’s something that i’ve noticed: when you understand music you can be like water, you can go where you want and relate to anyone.
maybe that isn’t the reason for being like water, maybe it’s something else.
there is a rhythm to life, though, i don’t care if it comes from hip hop, or dancehall, or punk rock or…well you can go on and on with that list, and if you know me, you know that i could certainly expound on it ad infinium.
it comes from the beating heart. if you can lock into that, and dance to , well…lets just say i’m pretty amazed where that can take me these days. maybe, it’ll take me to sleep now.
