Suing the universe for personal injury and punitive damages, nyc 2014
I have a mental illness diagnosis , I have been chronically homeless and I also am a vicious drug addict and alcoholic, So I’ve been inside a few psych wards here and there you could say. at this point The number of them is higher than I even remember or know. I won’t write the Big psych ward experience post that I want to because I won’t have time but the experience is pretty similar everywhere: New York, Boston, New Jersey : pretty much the same. I just wanted to share something kind of funny that happened the first time I was in a New York City psych ward, at bellevue Hospital in lower Manhattan in 2014.
in January 2014 I was in New York City living on the streets and it was very cold there were raging snow storms and it was just God awful to be living outside so I went to Bellevue Hospital and got into the psych ward by saying suicidal things. i’m not proud of it it’s just to give context to why I was there. I might’ve really been suicidal I don’t remember, there was a lot to be suicidal about in my life at the time, certainly. I might’ve really been ready to jump in front of a train I really don’t remember. either way I end up with a few weeks in a psych ward down lower Manhattan at Bellevue. The other patients were… interesting
there was a small short skinny middle-aged black fellow who I had seen walking around the psych ward, there at Bellevue , with a huge stack of paper full of meticulous writing from his black no stabby Psychward safe pen. he was writing it for days. eventually I just asked what Masterpiece he was crafting there , his hundreds of pages of handwritten manifesto.
he told me with a almost cartoonish lisp and Brooklyn accent that he was suing the universe for personal injury and punitive damages. he told me like there wasn’t anything strange about that. like it was some dispute over a local car accident, very matter-of-factly. I just thought “you know that’s totally not crazy, the universe deserves to be sued by everyone. “
his totally justifiable lawsuit just stuck with me, just a story I like to share: suing The universe for personal injury and punitive damages. fuckin a. me too!
I have a lot of stories that I like to share and I hope that I am able to share them going forward still. i’ll do my best.if there’s anyone that likes reading my posts just know that I like to make them just as much , it’s freeing, it’s very therapeutic in a time where therapy is much needed.

I wonder if the universe ever had to pay up. I feel like I’ve been personally injured by the universe, and that payment for punitive damages are in order.
