Sometimes I think about politics, not as much as I used to.
I’ve been seeing that CNN had Trump on a town hall last, and people were all pissed, you know, because he’s a criminal, and it got me thinking about everything CNN has done for him.
Cancel culture can’t really be what all these right-wingers whine about because Trump is a known sexual predator and still running for president and getting hour-long free primetime campaign ads in an echo chamber on CNN. How does Al Franken get canceled, but Trump is the presumed GOP front runner? I think Democrats need to hold themselves to the standards that their adversaries do: none. I miss Al Franken, I like that guy. It’s not like he was on tape bragging about sexual assault, paying porn stars out of campaign funds, causing violent insurrections, trying to rig elections, or hoarding (and probably showing off at weddings and bar mitzvahs) highly classified documents, yet Al is canceled.
I think if you just blame Fox News for the rise of Trump, you’re missing out on a big part of it. There would be no President Trump without all of the free promotion that CNN gave and still gives him. I remember in 2016 they would literally live stream his podium, with his name on it for hours on end, just waiting for the guy to say something that would drive their ratings.
It worked on me; I was glued to it from 2016 to 2020, just waiting for the guy to finally get what was coming to him. Fucking Mueller report. I was always thinking “today is the day”. I will never forget when Trump fired Comey and thinking “well, obviously, you can’t just do that”.
When you’re rich, you can do whatever you want. You can grab them by the pussy.
It’s funny, now that I pay less attention, he actually is getting indicted for white-collar crime and found civilly liable for sexual assault. I don’t think CNN should give him hour-long platforms to play his greatest hits, like “the election was stolen”… etc. There is no loyalty to actual journalism in any cable TV news; the ratings and advertising profit motive is in charge, whether it’s Fox, CNN, or MSNBC.
The only place I get political news is from Reddit; I actually get notifications to my lock screen. It’s all the sources, and I can sift through them to deduce what’s actually going on. These days, I still tend to ignore it, though I like to see people like George Santos eat shit sandwiches in court.
The whole thing is a farce, all of it. US politics presents some kind of choice like “oh, we’re the good guys”. There aren’t any good guys. Every US president is a war criminal by nature; it’s in the job description.
Plus, they are all too fucking old. Seriously, you’re gonna run Biden again? What the fuck? That’s what you’ve got for us? C’mon, man.
