Twice Exceptional

With a new idea

My mind is not at all functional today. I've tried to start writing at least 3 times only to realize that I could not form a coherent sentence, and if I could I wouldn’t know what to say, anyway.

This fucking brain! It finds a way to be my greatest asset while also being my worst liability. My mind is simultaneously my best friend and worst enemy. I was diagnosed with ADHD in the year 2000, when I was 14…not at all educated about it, just medicated with stimulants and sent back to the halls of Plymouth South Middle School. Now, I research everything.

I found out that there are enough kids who are considered “gifted” with co-occurring ADHD that there is actually a term for it: “twice exceptional” (or 2e). Naturally I turned to my AI assistant to find out more, and it’s response had me feeling understood, and perhaps granting me a better understanding of myself in the process

“Gifted kids with ADHD are like a double-edged sword. They have incredible strengths: insatiable curiosity, lightning-fast learning, and an innate knack for creativity and problem-solving. But, they also grapple with unique challenges. Their brilliant minds often struggle with focus, organization, and emotional regulation. It’s a constant balancing act between their exceptional abilities and the hurdles that ADHD throws their way.

This combination is often misunderstood. Some assume their giftedness masks their ADHD, or vice versa. This leads to missed diagnoses and a lack of support. These kids often feel like they don’t quite fit in, struggling to meet the high expectations set for gifted children while battling the impulsiveness and distractibility that come with ADHD”

Wow, I feel seen.

It’s like that line from the Faces song “Ooh La La”

“I wish that I knew what I know now when I was younger”

a few weeks ago met a friend who is almost 20 years older than me, a classically trained opera singer, remote tech employee (of some kind) and onlyfans model. You can probably tell by the last sentence that she is pretty bright but also has very advanced ADHD. Seriously, I couldn’t make a up person with those credentials.

She and I are both really into the whole AI revolution so we trade notes…. She’s started an LLC for various kinds of media, and she wants it to be staffed by people like us. She’s getting her lawyer to draft up an employment contract for me to be the lead writer.

I learn a lot from her, after all she’s been here on earth longer than I have.

She has good ideas, so we’ll see. I’ve also come up with an idea to help and educate people with ADHD, the way I wish I had been helped and educated back in 2000, i’m not going to say too much.

I was thinking, though. Since I was told that supportive housing allows me to work up to 20 hours a week, I should probably go be a cashier somewhere, or something. I hate being so broke, it’s not good for morale.

Speaking of brokenness and morale: Please help!

The Vision: I want to create an automated and intelligent ADHD assistant — a personalized tool that helps us stay on track, manage our time, prioritize tasks, and even offer a little motivational boost when we need it. Imagine having a virtual sidekick that understands our unique brains and helps us tap into our full potential!

The Challenge: Developing this kind of tool requires powerful AI technology, and that comes with a cost. To access the necessary resources, I’m proposing a one-month crowdfunding experiment.

The Ask: I’m asking you to chip in what you can — even a few dollars — to cover the cost of a ChatGPT Plus subscription. This will give me access to the advanced features and processing power needed to build the foundation of this assistant.

The Goal: If we can reach our funding goal, I’ll dedicate that month to building the prototype, sharing regular updates with you, and gathering your feedback to make it as helpful as possible.

What’s In It for You:

  • Early Access: You’ll be the first to test and shape the assistant.
  • Direct Impact: Your contribution directly fuels the development of a tool designed specifically for our needs.
  • Community: We’ll create a dedicated space for sharing ideas and strategies around ADHD management.
  • Potential Long-Term Benefits: If the prototype is successful, we can explore options for making it widely available at an affordable price

MARK MY WORDS: when they monetize the custom Chat GPT bots that people are building, it’s going to create first time millionaires, just like apple’s app store did. Lets get this!
