In the fall of 2019 I was homeless and recovering from a skin graft surgery in a boston hospital. I had a suffered a 3rd degree burn from the dust off cans I was obsessively huffing all day.
After some time in the hospital I was allowed to go down to the hospital library. I would listen to music on YouTube. One video was recommended to me, and I had heard of the band before (magnolia electric co.) so I clicked on it.
“OH grace, when you stop believing, that don’t mean that it just goes away” is the chorus. It made me think that tne forces of benevolent energy that kept me alive were not at all concerned whether I had faith or not, they would carry me regardless of my beliefs. i was, after all, healing miraculously from a horrible injury.
Jason molina died of alcoholism before he was even 30, and there he was singing about grace. It connected with me on the deepest level that music can touch, and is one of my favorite songs of all time
